Nationally recognized social work practitioner, author, teacher, and recipient of many awards* and accolades, Bill discusses how social work can enhance both patient health outcomes, and increase revenues for hospitals and medical centers. After graduating Duke University in 1971 with a degree in psychology, Bill completed his graduate degree in Social Work from UC Berkeley and became a pioneer in the evolution of social work "best practices" and "patient outcomes," and was lauded at Stanford for adopting a family- and patient-centered care approach that stands as a model for social work programs across the country. Among his legacies was his innovative approach to managing staff in a non-profit environment, where excellence is fostered through good communication, self-reflection, sensitivity to others, and relationship building. Having retired from Stanford in 1993 due to health reasons, Bill has a unique perspective borne out of courage and conviction, even in the face of his own mortality; personality traits that fueled his success throughout his career.
